Since our safari to northern Tanzania and The Mountain of God in the summer of 2004, many of the Young Explorers have found places in University and some will visit other fascinating parts of the world.  I hope that this page will help us all keep in contact and look forward to information from you as you journey through life.

If you are a Young Explorer that was on the safari to Tanzania in 2004, and your name is not listed below, or you wish to update your information, please contact Hugh (HughA64@AOL.com) and pass on your details.

Ben - (April 2008) - Last year Ben spent 10 months working in a robotics lab in Catania, Sicily, for his industrial placement. He is now on his final year at Portsmouth, with just his final project left to do, which is to design, build and test a digital secure wireless communication system. This summer Ben hopes to do his summer mountain leader award, then get a job with the British Antarctic Survey as a Communications Manager. If he gets the job he will spend 22months in Antarctica.). If not then maybe he will move to New Zealand.

Toby - (December 2007) - Toby has just got back from an expedition to Peru with BSES as a young leader (evening of December 23rd). He had a amazing time and went up to 5000m! Really awesome views and culture. The people were fascinated with Toby's hair and how tall he is!

Van - (December 2007) - Vanechka has finished university and is currently working for a private investment bank called Dawnay, Day. She is a financial analyst for them and has been there for 4 months. Van absolutely adore her job and hopes to work with them for a while.  She has recently visited Macau with work and hopes to be going to Bangkok in March to see some friends who are working out there.

Angharad - (December 2007) - Angharad is now in her final year at Bristol Uni studying Classics, and will hopefully be graduating next June! She will be a student for a little longer though, as she plans to do a law conversion course and go on to qualify as a solicitor. She have recently received offers for a training contract at some London corporate law firms which will give her the funding for this, and a job at the end of it. She say this is very exciting even if it does mean selling her soul! and that hopefully she will be able to save up and go travelling again soon.

Will (Bermingham) - (December 2007) - Will has taken his day Skipper qualification which allows him to charter yachts in the UK and Med. He is well into his industrial placement year (3rd year) of his biochemistry degree and is working at GSK Stevenage doing research. He says that it is an absolutely amazing experience and a great new perspective into research in the industrial world. Will had shoulder surgery in September to correct some damage he has done by dislocating it three times over the past few years. He is well on the way to recovery now so looking forward to starting to play squash and tennis again when the weather warms up a little.

Rachel - (November 2007) - Rachel is now in her final year of Politics and International Relations at Dundee. She spent the Summer working in an orphanage in Chennai, India where she fell in love with all the babies, then backpacked around India for a month where she fell in love with the culture, the food, the people...everything!! Rachel is planning to go back as soon as she graduates!

Holly - (May 2007) - Holly is finishing her 2nd year mid June and is really enjoying Uni, and is into Amateur Dramatics, rugby and basketball! She is currently writing a show that will put on in November, raising money for the Samantha Dickinson's brain tumour trust, and the Hampshire Autistic society. The show takes a film, makes it into a comedy, we add songs and lots of dancing and medical jokes to hopefully produce a funny show and make lots of money!!

David - message from David (15th August 2006) - I have returned from my second trip to Tanzania today, having successfully climbed Mt Kilimanjaro! I also worked in a school for a week, went on Safari in Manyara and Tarangire Parks and visited Zanzibar island.
David has achieved the grades he needs for a place at King's College, Cambridge to study Natural Sciences. The safari to Tanzania inspired his interest in Geology and he will be studying a mixture of Physics and Geology.

Laura has gained a place at St. Catherine’s College in Cambridge where she is reading Geography, having used the work she did in Tanzania s part of her course work, 'An investigation into the effect altitude, human and volcanic activity have on the ecological composition of two volcanoes in East Africa'. Having travelled to Tanzania last year she chose to travel around Thailand this summer where she worked her way through a four-day open water diving course.

Will (Coombs) - message from Will … - Hi, I’m in Thailand at the moment having a month long relaxing break with Laura! I'm being a real 'farang' and only exploring the islands off the gulf coast but its a great place and very laid back! + the food is to die for and so cheap as well!  I start Uni on the 3rd of October I think/hope! I saw that Angharad is going there too.

Will (Bradley) is off to India for the summer with his family.  They are going trekking in Ladakh (Himalayan foothills).  Will is getting pretty excited about the trip as it should be something very different from Tanzania!

Hannah is studying Biology at University in Bristol.
